CHALLENGE
Like many universities, CSUF’s College of Business and Economics struggled to maintain strong alumni engagement after graduation. While students often felt connected during their time on campus, that involvement frequently declined once they entered the workforce.
Leadership wanted clearer insight into how alumni preferred to stay connected, what types of engagement opportunities mattered most, and where communication gaps existed. Without reliable feedback, it was difficult to confidently prioritize outreach, engagement, and alumni giving initiatives.
SOLUTION
Fratzke partnered with this client to develop and manage a comprehensive alumni research initiative designed to uncover the factors influencing long-term engagement, participation, and giving.
Key areas of focus included:
- Developing a strategic alumni research and engagement framework
- Gathering insights into alumni behaviors, preferences, and engagement patterns
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen communication and outreach efforts
- Analyzing research findings to support institutional decision-making
- Delivering actionable recommendations to improve long-term alumni engagement
- Supporting future engagement and giving initiatives through data-driven insights
Rather than focusing solely on satisfaction metrics, the research was designed to understand the full picture of alumni engagement. Fratzke combined survey research with strategic analysis to help leadership make informed decisions around outreach, relationship-building, and long-term alumni program development.
RESULTS
Our partnership provided CSUF with a clearer understanding of how alumni relationships evolve after graduation and where opportunities existed to strengthen long-term engagement. The research helped leadership better understand alumni communication preferences, participation interests, and opportunities to improve outreach strategies.
The project also established a stronger strategic foundation for future alumni initiatives. Leadership left with actionable recommendations and a more informed framework for strengthening alumni relationships, increasing participation, and supporting long-term engagement goals.
